The Ultimate Frisbee
Looking down at children playing in the garden, a game they made up by themselves, I recalled the various interesting games I played. Out of all the games, Frisbee, popularly known as the flying disk was and is still one of the most engaging and joyful. Invented by Walter Frederick Morrison, the “Ultimate Frisbee” is a non-contact team game played by players with a flying disc, flung by a human. It is unlike most other sports due to its focus on self-officiating even at the highest levels which means that there are no referees, the players themselves determine fouls. It is an extremely quick and spontaneous sport and therefore brings many benefits with it like increased agility from the quick turns, pivots and throws. The benefits of an aerobic workout like the Ultimate Frisbee also include increased cardiovascular health and increased endorphin release. Another important and unique quality of the game is that it is gender-neutral as the team consists of 7 players, of which 3 at least are always women. The game is all about techniques, a perspective read of the situation and explosive movements. It has gained a lot of popularity in the last decade and as per the recent data, the World Flying Disc Federation which is recognized by the IOC, is working on its inclusion for the 2028 Olympics. Come out, let’s play the game once more and relive the experience.
