WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY

Every year 10th of September is marked as World Suicide Prevention Day. This day is celebrated to raise awareness that suicide can be prevented. Reducing access to suicide means is one way to reduce deaths. This year the theme of World Suicide Prevention Day 2021 is “Creating Hope Through Action”. The theme highlights a positive message that attempts to encourage people to engage in this difficult topic. This represents a commitment to create a new sense of purpose in individuals by empowering and equipping them with the skills and confidence to connect with someone they suspect struggling. In higher risk of suicide, Depression is the most common psychological condition. Suicide is the leading cause of death in persons aged 15-24. Many of us will have had thoughts like ‘I can’t take this anymore’ or ‘It would be easier if I wasn’t here'. These can pop into our heads when we’re tired and stressed. If this is the case with the person you’re talking to or they’re struggling you could encourage them to talk or to discuss the difficulties that led to the thoughts you can also connect with people and stretch out your hand to someone who may need your help. It’s widely known that some behaviors indicate the possibility of suicide. “You’re alive for a reason so don’t ever give up.Because if you kill yourself, you’re also going to kill the people who love you.”
